Well, it's the first day for the big sales. And it was crazy! Stores opened up as early as 5 A.M. this morning. My sweetheart went to the gym and I had a workout doing some of my shopping.
First I went to Walmart, once I walked in and saw the long lines at the cash registers. I went right out the door and went straight to Target. I found most of the things I needed and got out with a problem. I waited 10 minutes in line. Which isn't that bad.
All I need to get is, christmas cards; wrapping paper and few more presents. Then I am done!
2 Cornish game hens
1 tsp. rosemary
1 tsp. thyme
2 T chopped parsley
1/3 C butter
5 shallots, peeled and minced
salt
pepper
Serves 2
Preheat oven to 350 F
If necessary, remove neck and giblets from inside hen. Discard or save for another use (note: your hen may already have this done for you). Rinse with cold water, pat dry and sprinkle inside and out. Place breast side up in a greased shallow baking pan. Set aside.
Melt butter, add shallots, rosemary parsley and thyme, stir over low heat (so the butter doesn't burn), until shallots are soft, about 3-4 minutes.
Place hens in a roasting pan and baste with the butter sauce. Bake for 50 minutes, basting with more butter every 15 minutes. Garnish with additional parsley.
We added mushrooms around the hen to cook. Then 20 before it's done, we added string beans to cook.
For dessert is a low carb cheese cake without the crust!
I am thankful for being healthy and losing weight. 30 lbs lighter! My parents, brothers and sisters. Friends, old and new. Passing the road test the 2nd time and getting my driver's license for the very first time. Woo hooo!
And last but not least. My friend and boyfriend, Bill. Thank you for your support and just being there, through the sad times. Teaching me things to better myself.
This will be our first Thanksgiving and there will be many more to follow. Just a cozy dinner for two. Looby Loo!
It's a day where family and friends gather together. Aromas of turkey, ham, mashed potato, gravies and homemade pies fill the air. Men gather around the television to watch football. Women are busy preparing the delicious dishes and cooking over a hot stove. Children are running around. Conversations are exchanged.
All my past Thanksgivings were spent with family. It was a tradition with us. But this year, it's different. With the passing of my mother, last May, family members have sort of drifted apart. But we did wish each other a "Happy Thanksgiving". We decided to spend this day with others.
I remember my past Thanksgivings. My father would wake up early in the morning to prepare the turkey and I would take care of the ham. We had all the fixings; mashed potato, gravy, dinner rolls and apple pie for dessert with ice cream. This day was very special to my dad. He got to show off his cooking skills and he was very proud of that. Also, he had his loved ones with him. Those were very good memories.
My train ride into the city was fine, just that the ride on muni was awful. You would think that people would do something about their body odor. I know I sound cruel and a few of them were homeless, so I should ease up a bit. It could be that the buses had that smell too.
Normally, I don't noticed or smell this, but today was different. One point during my bus ride, my eyes started to tear up, cause of the smell. I was so relieved to get to my stop and get off.
This is public transportation for you: crowded, delayed and smelly. Nice huh?
On our way to the train station. Layed out in the middle of the street, was a full grown grey and white tabby cat. This was not a typical position of an animal that got hit. Normally, you would see some body parts or you really can't make out what kind of species it is.
This was definitely a cat. It was lying on its back, with one arm extended over it's head, as if it were stretching. My hunny thought it was sleeping, but I have never seen a cat sleep like that. Especially the cats that I had in my childhood.
Poor kitty. I hope someone disposes the body, before we see it all over the road.
As I walk to the platform at the station, waiting for my train. The crisp air breezes by. Silly me, I forgot to bring my gloves, so my fingers were frozen and numb. Weather predicted today, is strong gusty winds in the east bay.
On my walk to the office building, I pass by this coffee/bakery place. What do I see in the display shelves? "Krispy Kreme!!!!" A woman came out with a box of them. I glanced at the donuts being displayed but did not give in to temptation. Thoughts of the warm tasty morsels in my tummy felt nice. But I remembered that I had a delicious blueberry muffin that my hunny made for me, which I immediately warmed up and ate with my two eggs.
The thought of having a Krispy Kreme disappeared. "Poof"
As mentioned, we saw "Lord Of The Rings" the special edition. We saw extra footage, scenes that weren't in the theatres. There were some scenes that weren't necessary to be shown, extra dialogue. But of course, any extra footage of Legolas (played by the cute, adorable and very handsome, Orlando Bloom) is okay with me.
Note to Vivian: Please remember to mention the extra scenes of Legolas to best friend. She too is a fan of his.
Back to the movie. Seeing it for the second time, gave me a better understanding of the story. This will refresh my memory, when the next installment, "The Two Towers", which is being released in December 18.
I just saw the new trailer on "The Two Towers" and I can't wait to see it!
The Cal Bears that is. Cal beats Stanford 30 - 7. Very sad to see my team just score a touchdown. Cal pretty much dominated the game. It sure was their big day.
This week marked the 20th anniversary of one of the most famous plays in college football history, a five-lateral kickoff return through the Stanford marching band that gave California a win over the Cardinal in 1982.
Cal had lost their last seven games to the Cardinal, but ended that streak yesterday.
