After a brutal breakup, a young man vows to stay celibate during the 40 days of Lent, but finds the girl of his dreams and is unable to do anything about it. Matt, played by Josh Hartnett, breaks up with his girlfriend, Nicole, played by Vinessa Shaw. He meets a lot of women, but can't quite deal with the sex. He's still obsessed over Nicole and can't seem to get her off his mind. He gets inspired by swearing of sex for Lent (all forms of sexual activity, kissing or masturbation) and with this, it will give him a better perspective in his life.
Just when things, were going smooth. He meets the girl of his dreams, Erica, (played by Shannyn Sossamon), at a laundry mat. At first, he shy away from talking to her. She tries and have some sort of conversation with him, but gets little out of him. He starts making daily visits and they run into each other. He starts to like her and doesn't tell her what is going. Matt works for a dot.com company. His friend and co-workers are in on a bet, to determine how long will it take him to put out. Not only this, but it's posted on the net. In the beginning, Matt is not aware of this. The female workers, tried to entice him, by telling him, that she was thinking of getting a tattoo on her inner right thigh. She already has a tattoo of a butterfly on her other thigh. As she was telling him this, she was sitting on the copier, wearing fishnet stocking and spreading her legs. Very funny scene. She printed her butt and wrote her number down. Everyone in the office tried so many things, for him to break his celibacy, but he didn't.
At first, Erica was hurt, that he didn't tell her about his celibacy. But she realized, that it was something that he believed in. So, she was patient with him and was very understanding. One scene, that I thought was cute. Matt gave Erica these white flowers, I want to say that they are orchids. She said, that there are other ways, other than physical contact. With the flower, she started to caress his face with it. And he did the same. It was very erotic, the way they did it.
Of course it was one day to go and what happens? He blows it. His ex-Nicole, finds his celibacy a turn on. She figured, she was the reason that he is doing this and she feels, she should be the one to end it. When she gets word, that there is a bet going on, she places a bet and overhears, that Erica will be coming by at the stroke of midnight when day 40 became over. Matt is drunk and very much has sex on his mind. His roommate handcuffs him, to his bed, so he doesn't do anything to himself. He's drunk, delirious and starts fantasizing about having sex with Erica. He doesn't realize, that in reality, it's Nicole. Of course, Erica comes in, right after Nicole is done.
Matt loses girl. Girl ignores boy. Girl's room mate, tells her, that boy is crazy about her. Boy runs into girl in laundry mat and they kiss.
Next, his buddies, are betting how long they will be having sex....can't these guys, get a life!
Cute movie, but this could have been a made for television. The topless scenes of women, weren't necessary, but then again, men tend to think about sex, quite often.
President Bush gave Saddam Husein, 48 hours, to surrender. As expected, he will not surrender. So, this means war!
Newspapers, will have headlines and stories on this. Television sets will broadcast, updates and breaking news in the coming days, weeks or maybe even months.
Television shows, sports events and award ceremonies are most likely may be postponed due to the war. Word is, the Academy Awards will go on as scheduled this coming Sunday. If this is true, the awards, may get interrupted, by breaking news. Expect to hear people mention or at least make a comment about the ongoing war.
With my employer, that is! It's hard to believe, that two years have gone by. So, much has happened, since then.
