A witty comedy about bending the rules to reach your goal. This movie explores the world of women's football, from kick-abouts in the park to freekicks in the Final. Set in Hounslow, West London and Hamburg, the film follows two 18 year olds with their hearts set on a future in professional soccer. Heart-stopping talent doesn't seem to be enough when your parents want you to hang up your football boots, find a nice boyfriend and learn to cook the perfect chapatti.
Excellent cast of actors. Parminder K. Nagra plays the lead, "Jess" Jesminder Bhamra. Jess dreams of becoming the best soccer player that she can. She idolizes soccer star, "David Beckham," with posters and articles of him on her bedroom walls. Her parents refer to him as the bald white man. Keira Knightley plays "Jules", Juliette Paxton, her friend and teammate. They both pursue there love for the sport and the chance to go professional. Jess's parents have other plans for her. They want her to follow the tradional Indian ways and marry her own race. Not play football and focus on her studies.
I found the movie very entertaining and funny. It took us awhile to see this film but it was worth the wait. It gives you a clear understanding about ones cultural, beliefs, traditions and dreams.
An elderly Italian man asked the local priest to hear his confession.
"Father, during World War II, a beautiful woman knocked on my door and asked me to hide her from the Germans. I hid her in my attic and they never found her.
The priest replied, "That was a wonderful thing you did, my son, and you have no need to confess."
"It's worse Father. I was weak and told her she must repay me with her sexual favors."
"You were both in great danger and would have suffered terribly if the Germans had found her. Heaven, in its wisdom and mercy, will balance the good and evil, and judge you accordingly. You are forgiven."
"Thank you, Father. That's a great load off my mind. But I have one more question."
